So here’s my story:
I am just about to finish my first university undergraduate degree, and have recently noticed that not only did I gain the freshmen 15, but the sophomore 15, junior 15, and the senior 15.. okay, so maybe I haven’t gained 60 pounds since I started university, but I have gained 45..
How does that happen? How do you go from being a semi-fit teenager to a fat nerd? I’ll tell you how, making studies and partying your main priorities; too worried about studying and grades to cook food so you go through the drive thru, or the “must-have” McDonald’s after a late night of partying (which happened more often than I will ever admit to you guys).
So here is my start, a blog. This is mainly to force myself to stick to my goals, stick to this healthy food nonsense, which hasn’t happened in four years.. and if I get a couple followers, well that’s an added bonus! This blog will be mainly my journey through weight loss, which will include workout routines, recipes, all that fun stuff but will probably include the odd life-venting post or book review post.
So here is how I am starting the weight loss adventure (sounds more fun then weight loss challenge, right? yeah I thought so too): a two week green smoothie semi-body detox, where the smoothies will roughly be made of:
1.5 cups of frozen fruit (strawberries, bananas, pineapple, etc)
2 cups of fresh baby spinach
1 tsp flax seed
1 tsp chia seed
1/3 cup of plain greek yogurt (give or take, for protein)
3/4 cup of almond milk
This makes enough for two smoothies (I freeze half) and is about 170-200 calories, depending on what you use for fruit and how much. Along with this semi-detox, I will be following these guidelines after the two week detox:
- 8-10 glasses of water a day
- calorie limit of 1000-1200 calories per day
- no fastfood
- no processed food
- fish 2-3 times a week
- no carbs after breakfast
- no chips, chocolate, desserts, etc.
- no pop, sugar loaded juices, etc.
- at least 3 workouts a week
Now please note that a diet is not all about calorie intake, that is just a rough guideline for myself. Now finally, my goals. Apparently goals are fairly important when dealing with weight loss. So here are my goals from now until September 1st:
- lose 20 pounds (roughly a pound a week, which is the most likely result and healthiest way to loose weight instead of making your body go through drastic eating habits)
- lose 45 by the end of the year
- become a runner (more on this next post)
- train for a marathon
Now, I live in a verrrrrrry small community, where marathons apparently don’t exist, so I won’t actually be running a marathon, but in a couple months time I will begin to train as if I were going to run a marathon. Cool right? yeah not so much, but what are ya gonna do?
Anyway, I think this has been a long enough intro to this blog (or too long?), until next time folks! (with actual pictures and stuff, I promise)
